is this even possible being that beardies like greens. i was thinking of getting some succulants(aloe, kalancho, ect) but im not sure if they will eat them. i would imagine that aloe won't digest properly. i hate using fake plants!!!! any suggestions.

Conflicting Opinions...

Submitted by Bill on Mon, 05/05/2008 - 23:04.

Well, most of my research seems to come up with conflicting views on live plants with beardies.

Most places that say to steer clear of plants warn of the possible toxicity of them (which I honestly don't know which plants would and would not be toxic) and the fact that the dragons are likely to rip the plants up. Bearded Dragons do like to climb, so they're very likely to climb on the plants, so I would assume that adding cacti is not recommended, and any plants that are added would have to be pretty sturdy.

The places I've found that did say plants are fine with the dragons do warn of the items above, but simply say that depending on your individual animal, you might have success. On warning that is always evident is to make sure that there is no perlite in the soil for the plants. Perlite is the small white balls that you see in potting soil. Apparently beardies like to eat them, and then it makes them sick... so don't use them.

I'll continue looking around and checking with folks to see what other info I can dig up.
